Better Conversations by Jim Knight

What would happen if you truly listened with empathy instead of just hearing words?

This interactive lesson is adapted from a book study slide deck and redesigned in Rise 360 as a self-paced reflection experience. Learners explore three dimensions of empathy—toward self, affective, and cognitive—through guided reflection prompts that encourage personal insight and awareness. The focus is on building the foundation for stronger, more authentic conversations.

Tools Used: Rise 360, Articulate Storyline 360, Vyond, ChatGPT, Canva, Google Slides

The Problem

The original Better Conversations Chapter 3 was a facilitator-led slide deck. While effective in live sessions, it had limitations:

Passive, linear experience with minimal interactivity
Required a facilitator; hard to scale asynchronously
Learners who missed the session had no self-paced option
Limited analytics/visibility into engagement and completion

The Solution

I redesigned the content as a Rise 360 microlearning module:

Converted key ideas into interactive blocks (accordions, scenarios, reflections)
Structured for self-paced, mobile-friendly access
Added a downloadable Reflection Journal for application
Clarified learning objectives and applied adult learning principles

From Slide Deck to

Interactive eLearning Lesson

This project demonstrates how I converted one chapter of a live book study series into a self-paced, interactive Rise 360 lesson. While it functions as a standalone sample, it was designed as part of a larger module on Better Conversations by Jim Knight.

Impact

This project increased engagement by transforming static slides into an interactive experience where learners reflect on prompts rather than passively viewing content. The course is fully responsive across devices—desktop, tablet, or phone—ensuring flexibility and accessibility. For my portfolio, it highlights my ability to repurpose instructor-led training into eLearning while applying strong design strategy, accessibility considerations, and Rise 360 development skills.
